Apple iPhone
Any iPhone running iOS 8.1 or earlier won’t work with WhatsApp after March 31. Apple dropped support for 32-bit apps in iOS 11, and WhatsApp has not released a 64-bit version of its app for iPhone. If you own one of these iPhones, you can get around that limitation by downloading an older version of WhatsApp from iTunes and then signing into your account using a desktop web browser. It’s not ideal but it works—at least until Apple pulls older versions of its apps from iTunes.
BlackBerry
WhatsApp announced that it will stop working on Blackberry, BlackBerry 10 and BBOS after March 31, 2019. Users who have not updated to a new device in order to continue using WhatsApp will no longer be able to use the app. The company is recommending users switch to Android, iPhone or Windows Phone operating systems instead. But those looking for a BlackBerry option should know that there are still newer models available like BlackBerry Motion and Priv. Google Pixel, Pixel XL
These phones will stop using WhatsApp as of March 31. Google Pixel and Pixel XL are both Android devices that run Android 8.0 Oreo. Released in 2016, these phones both have 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, 12-megapixel rear cameras, and eight-megapixel front cameras. They cost $100 or more for a new device with no contract agreement. You can buy either phone unlocked online; then you just need to add your carrier’s SIM card to it to get service from any provider in your area. If you're thinking about buying a Google Pixel or Google Pixel XL phone but you don't want to use WhatsApp anymore, now is a good time to look for a new device since these will be offline soon.
HTC One (M8), One M9, U11
These phones will stop using WhatsApp from February 20 until April 30, 2019. In addition to these devices, you can continue using WhatsApp for an additional year on: Nexus 4, 5 and 6; HTC One (M7); Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4; Google Pixel and Pixel XL; Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Motorola Moto E4 Plus; Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ1 Compact; Huawei Mate 9 Pro, Honor 8X. These mobile phones also have 1 year of access to WhatsApp starting April 30 until April 30, 2020.
Huawei Mate 9 Pro, P10 Plus, P10
Starting Thursday, Facebook will discontinue support for all devices running Huawei software. This includes: the Mate 9 Pro, P10 Plus and P10. The following models will still run as normal: Honor 8 Pro and Honor V9, among others. If you own a Huawei phone that runs iOS or Android software other than what is mentioned above, you should be safe to use WhatsApp without worry of any disruption. We’ll update if we hear any news about older or other devices being affected by Facebook’s move against Huawei.
LG G4, G5, G6, V20
According to reports from Android Police, users with these mobile phones will no longer be able to use WhatsApp after March 31. The company provided a statement confirming that it would discontinue support for legacy devices in order to improve its service. Samsung Galaxy S6, S7 and Note 4: These are also among those listed by Android Police as having already stopped using chat functionality on their devices because of issues related to legacy app permissions. Support has already been discontinued. Sony Xperia Z5: On February 21, 2018, Sony announced that it would stop supporting SmartWatch 3 and Xperia Z5 devices due to an end of life policy. And then it said that Xperia M4 Aqua, C4 and C5 Ultra would stop receiving notifications starting April 1.
Moto Z2 Force Edition
The Moto Z2 Force Edition will stop using WhatsApp as of March 31. If you’re one of those users, it's probably time to invest in a new mobile phone. The Z2 Force Edition is made by Motorola, which Google acquired in 2012. Although many people think that Motorola smartphones are considered Android devices, they're actually sold through carriers and don't run Google-owned Android software.
Nokia Lumia 830, 930, 1520
These Nokia-branded Windows phones were among one of several first-wave smartphones to support Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 Update, which is necessary to continue using WhatsApp. But as of April 1, 2017 (less than three months away), they will no longer be supported by either Microsoft or WhatsApp. Even if you're tempted to hold onto your old smartphone just a little while longer, you'll want to consider upgrading sooner rather than later; it's likely that these devices will not receive any additional OS updates after April.
Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE+ / S3 Neo / S4 Active / S4 Mini / S5 Active / S5 Mini / S6 Active / S6 Edge Plus / S7 Active / S7 Edge
users of these phones will not be able to use new versions of WhatsApp starting from December 2016. Even though it is still possible to download and use older versions, they will not receive any updates. In addition, users won’t be able to use features such as stickers and themes. Android 4.3 or higher: users of these phones can continue using older versions of WhatsApp, but they will no longer receive updates starting from December 2016.
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact / Z2 Tablet Compact
The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and Z2 Tablet Compact, both from 2014, have been dropped from support by Whatsapp. This does not come as a surprise, given that Android 4.4 KitKat was released in October 2013 and Sony has now announced plans to stop updating these devices with Android versions after Marshmallow (which will be coming in 2017). What does come as a surprise is that newer models such as Xperia X Compact or Xperia XZ are missing from their list of supported devices. Owners of these phones have to rely on alternative options such as Signal and Telegram for encrypted chat messaging.
